This is a extremely addictive! It has a lot in common with Foddy's game "Too Many Ninjas". The structure and timing of the game and the sound effects are great. Is it possible that the higher medals aren't working properly? I killed the Emperor and then continued to live long enough the get the subsequent rank (so never died with "Emperor" as my ranking) and the medals for King Slayer and Imperial March didn't show up.

I just want to second cobcris' review saying that it would be good to be able to continue after the time runs out. It's too bad to have to rush through the photos, which are beautiful, knowing that the time is running down, and not be able to click through them afterwards. Or is that a cruel, intentional feature of the game? :)

The soundtrack you use for these is nice, too.

This is fun to play and has a nice atmosphere because of your music and graphics. It doesn't increase in complexity significantly, but the change in the bosses' patterns is really nice.

I think the most important issue is that it's possible to do very well just by mashing the down button quickly at the beginning of each round (or whatever you want to call it). This is because the enemy always comes out from behind the lamp post immediately at the very beginning of each round. If there was a random delay before the first time they come out from cover, then mashing the down button won't work so well, since you'd risk running out of ammo and getting shot.

Nice looking game!

I like the art in this one in particular. It is kind of at that intersection of cute and creepy that is such a good part of the daymare town games. It was frustrating that when you miss you have to wait for the shot to finish its path to fire a second time, but it seems smart to have it that way, since it would be too easy otherwise.

Your longer games have great sound design- this game could use a little more audio. The lack of a soundtrack fits the atmosphere of the game, but it would be good to have some sound effects especially when a moth reaches the flame.

I think the art in this was just fine! The music was a short loop, but it also worked well since this is a pretty short game.

The player can only attack monsters when moving to the right. This is a weird mechanic for a game to have, and there's no reason to expect it, so it's hard to tell whether you did it on purpose or not. The space bar makes the character tilt, but I don't notice any effect. Maybe it has to do with the flying enemies? I can't tell. It's possible that you could solve both those issues with some instructions about the controls.

Brunodev responds:

Thanks for your review bro! Yeah the spacebar tilt is a more effective way to combat flying enemies, nice catch, and I completely forgot to add a tutorial about the controls, damn it! Unfortunately, the attack thing is a collision bug that I did not had time to fix it, I might fix it after Ludum Dare's judging period ends. As always I plan way too complex stuff compared to my skills on Ludum Dare times haha

I really liked this game, and have come back to play again after making it through the story mode a few times. It's simple, but very difficult, and the sound design is great- way better than most submissions.

One issue I haven't seen in other comments is the timing for the sword-wielding enemies on level one. It seems to me like they can deal damage before the animation and sound effect of the sword swing. Since the animation and sound are the two things that give the player cues about timing, those things should come before damage.

It's cool to have enemies generate randomly at each level, but I don't think there's much of a point for enemies to drop random amounts of money for such a short game, where being able to buy power-ups/health is really important, but there aren't enough stages for that kind of variability to matter much. This was an awesome game. Thanks!

Nice work. I have vivid memories of playing the daymare town games when you put them out- I think they're some of the most transporting, memorable flash games I've played, because of your style and sound design. Thanks for making more!

The fact that the game isn't too clear in terms of having a story or anything substantial to do with meaning, which seems like what it's purporting to be about, wouldn't be such a big deal if the design was a little more careful. I agree with a lot of the criticism of this game, but if the controls were responsive, the sound was well designed, and bugs didn't happen when you walked offscreen, I think this would be pretty fun little thing to play through, and get good reviews on here.
